September 23rd – 27th

This week in music … Kindergarten: -        Continued singing different action songs and singing games -        Had the chance to play a steady beat using the hand drum, rhythm sticks and by shaking an egg shaker Grade 1: -        Continued singing in tune many rhythmic singing games and action songs.   As well as learning the first verse to our “Chance” song -        Created and clapped rhythm patterns using “ta,” “titi” and “sh” Grade 2: -        Recognized, created and clapped rhythm patterns in the time signature 2/4 -        Continued to extend their knowledge with various notes and rests -        Worked on keeping a steady beat by playing different patterns on the wooden spoons -        Continued their vocal development by working on our first Remembrance Day song Grade 3: -        Created and clapped rhythm patterns in the time signature 3/4 -        Continued to extend their knowledge with various notes and rests -        Wor

September 16th - 19th

This week in music ... Kindergarten student: - responded to tone matching and echo games by singing the "Hello" song and "Slippery Fish" - explored the sound of various musical instruments by using the egg shakers, rhythm sticks and hand drum - practiced standing for "O Canada" Grade 1: - responded to tone matching and echo games by singing "Ham & Eggs," "Boom Boom" & the first verse of the "Chance" song - explored the sound of various musical instruments by using the egg shakers, rhythm sticks and hand drum - continued working on building rhythm patterns using "ta," "titi" and "sh" - learned how to play a game called "Busted" - ask your child how to play this game! Grade 2: - played simple rhythm patterns on the wooden spoons - continued exploring, building patterns and using different notes and rests - with an emphasis on the half rest and whole rest - responded

Miss Lysak September 17, 2019 Dear Choir Parents: Your child has been busily preparing for both Remembrance Day and winter celebrations in choir.  For Remembrance Day, the choir has two selections that they will be working on in their repertoire; I Know Where I’m Going and My Lord, What a Morning.  The latter is a song about hope and was written for the Hochstein Children’s Choir in New York.  We wanted to make you aware of the lyrics as it falls under the genre of spirituals in music history, much like jazz or classical.  If anyone has a concern about the lyrics, please do not hesitate to contact us at the school. We look forward to sharing our music with fellow students and family in the coming months. September 9th - 13th

This week in music, the Kindergarten students came to the music room for the first time!  We played some name games, learned the “Hello” song, did some movement activities and played “The Farmer in the Dell.”  The Kindergarten students will have music once a week this year. Grade 1:   Learned about high and low sounds – talking about different animals that make a high sound and a low sound.    They also acted like a specific animal if the music was high and a different animal if the music was low Sung, in tune, many rhythmic, singing games and action songs Recognized “ta” and “titi” rhythm patterns Grade 2: Recognized whole, half and quarter rests and notes.    As well as created different rhythm patterns using these notes and rests to clap and echo Responded to tone matching with other voices and instruments Grade 3: Continued with good vocal development while singing with expression and good enunciation Recognized the eighth rest and incorporated this rest

September 3rd - 6th

September 3 rd – 6 th This week all the Grade 1 – 4 students had a chance to come to the music room once.  The kindergarten students will be starting their music classes next week.  During music this week, the students participated in some name games and worked on singing in tune.  Choir: This year choir is going to look a little different then it has in previous years.  Choir will run September to December for interested students in Grade 3 and 4.  Next Tuesday September 10 th  during the lunch hour Mrs. Barabash and I will be hosting a “trial” practice for choir.  Students in Grade 3 and 4 who are interested in what choir may look like are invited to come to this trial practice.  On Thursday September 12 th permission forms will be coming home for all those students who are interested in joining the choir.  Please fill out your child’s permission form and return it to the school as soon as possible.   In February there will be a choir that will be specifically fo

First day of Music!!

Today was a great first day back at school! Some of the Grade 3 and 4 students had music today.  They had the chance to work in small groups solving a music puzzle.
