September 3rd– 6th

This week all the Grade 1 – 4 students had a chance to come to the music room once.  The kindergarten students will be starting their music classes next week. 

During music this week, the students participated in some name games and worked on singing in tune. 

Choir:

This year choir is going to look a little different then it has in previous years.  Choir will run September to December for interested students in Grade 3 and 4.  Next Tuesday September 10th during the lunch hour Mrs. Barabash and I will be hosting a “trial” practice for choir.  Students in Grade 3 and 4 who are interested in what choir may look like are invited to come to this trial practice.  On Thursday September 12thpermission forms will be coming home for all those students who are interested in joining the choir.  Please fill out your child’s permission form and return it to the school as soon as possible.  

In February there will be a choir that will be specifically for Grade 1 and 2 students.  More information about that choir will come out in the New Year.

Hi Everyone!!! Wow ... what a week!  I hope and everyone of you are doing well!   I am missing you all so much and what we were creating in the music room! I am safe and healthy and was working at the school this week. Kindergarten students, I miss teaching you how to sing "O Canada" and talking about a heart beat with you! Grade 1 and 2 students, I am missing your sweet voices while singing and teaching you about the sol-fa notes. Grade 3 and 4 students, I am missing your xylophone playing and watching you grow with your sol-fa notes.  TASC students, I am missing your smiles and giggles and working with the different shaking instruments with you. Please know that I am thinking about each and everyone of you and if you need anything or want to share something with me I would LOVE to hear about it!!  Today I took a little break and went for a walk outside and enjoyed the fresh air!  Hopefully the snow starts melting soon and spring is around the corner. Miss Lysak September 17, 2019 Dear Choir Parents: Your child has been busily preparing for both Remembrance Day and winter celebrations in choir.  For Remembrance Day, the choir has two selections that they will be working on in their repertoire; I Know Where I’m Going and My Lord, What a Morning.  The latter is a song about hope and was written for the Hochstein Children’s Choir in New York.  We wanted to make you aware of the lyrics as it falls under the genre of spirituals in music history, much like jazz or classical.  If anyone has a concern about the lyrics, please do not hesitate to contact us at the school. This week in music … Kindergarten -        Continued working on vocal development and are learning how to sing “O Canada” -        Talked about high and low sounds and had the chance to improvise movements when they heard a high sound and low sound Grade 1 -        Continued working on vocal development and working on singing in tune -        Talked about high, middle and low sounds Grade 2 -        Finalized our drumming stories for our celebration of learning -        Grade 3 students came to visit us and we got to share our drumming stories with them then teach them our drumming patterns Grade 3 & 4 -        Started working with the sol – fa notes and learning where they go on the staff -        Started working with the xylophones – labelled a song with the sol – fa notes and then learned how to play it on the instruments
