January 13^th – 17^th

Just a reminder that Grade 1 and 2 choir starts on Tuesday January 28^th and permission forms are due back by Tuesday January 21^st

This week in music …

Kindergarten

-       Worked on vocal development and continued talking about the concept of singing.  Students learned the song “Down By the Station”

-       Continued working with the African drums and keeping a steady beat.

Grade 1

-       Continued working on their songs for the celebration of learning

-       Continued working with the African drums – learned the notes “goon” and “doon” and that they are played in the middle of the drum.

-       Had the chance to echo back simple rhythm patterns on the African drums

Grade 2

-       Continued working with the African drums by echoing rhythm patterns, playing rhythm patterns together and focusing on keeping a steady beat

-       Learned a new pattern called “GG 5”

o   Ask your child to show you this pattern at home, they can use a table, or a chair to show this pattern to you

Grade 3

-       Continued working with the African drums by playing rhythm patterns together as a large group and focusing on keeping a steady beat

Grade 4

-       Continued working with the African drums by playing rhythm patterns together as a large group, breaking up in to 2 smaller groups and playing two patterns at the same time and keeping a steady beat

-       Learned 2 new patterns the “gallop” and “Room ba toom ba”
